Join Jamie Hanson, E-RYT and runner of 25+ years to learn how yoga can improve your running. Many runners resist practices such as yoga because they want to exert the maximum amount of energy possible. But, inevitably if we do not take care of our bodies and continue to beat the pavement we will get injured.
Athletes of all kinds can benefit from a consistent yoga practice. Many athletes have an imbalance in their bodies because of the targeted muscles that they work in their sport. For example, runners are typically tight in the hips and hamstrings and relatively weak in the core. Having a regular yoga practice can help runners increase flexibility while strengthening areas that will improve their running and reduce the risk of injury. Yoga also can be a practice to restore tired muscles that have been overworked as well as a way to assist in the healing of acute or chronic injuries.
